Student Stakeholder Session

Here is the summary of the discussion held by Wayne State undergraduate students, who examined two of the five strategic directions contained in the current plan. Students focused on the learning experience and the quality of campus life.
1. Learning Experience: Establish and sustain a superlative learning experience that builds upon the unique values and attributes of WSU.
- Encourage greater use of Pipeline.
- Keep the Undergraduate Library open 24 hours; keep noise down in quiet areas.
- Reduce the number of general education requirements.
- Address the issue of course cancellation and availability.
- Offer more flexible class schedules including more two-day classes and shorter class times.
- Encourage cohesiveness between the various colleges and schools.
2. Quality of Campus Life: Enhance the quality of life on campus by nurturing a culture of success and excellence.
- Make the entire campus wireless.
- Greater attention to residence hall events at which nonresident students attend.
- Strengthen connections between the Towers and Ghafari Hall.
- Make the Student Center user-friendly.
- Create more on-campus events to encourage students to stay during the weekend.
- Provide shuttle service from campus to downtown on weekends.
- Use the Web site to publicize university activities.
- Encourage retail venues and other commercial establishments to stay open during the evenings and weekend.
- Provide greater support of athletics and work to increase school spirit.
- Increase quality of student programming and provide greater funding.
- Better maintenance and cleanliness needed at DeRoy Apartments.
- Pay for parking only once a day.
- Add housing for families.
- Assign parking for longer than a semester.
