1. The Learning Experience: Establish and sustain a superlative learning experience that builds upon the unique values and attributes of WSU.
- Reward excellence in teaching and make it a top priority.
- Recruit and support outstanding faculty and academic staff.
- Mentor faculty, teaching assistants and adjuncts to improve teaching methods.
- Provide more instruction and support on learning for faculty.
- Promote a better faculty understanding of students’ unique learning styles and each student’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Establish clear standards for excellence in teaching.
- Simplify general education requirements.
- Form additional learning communities, particularly for first-year students.
- Expand global learning and language departments, encouraging juniors to participate.
- Integrate experiential and service learning into academic departments.
- Provide more opportunities for co-op learning.
3. Quality of Campus Life: Enhance the quality of life on campus by nurturing a culture of success and excellence.
- Recruit out-of-state students and promote residential living for these students.
- Offer more entertainment venues and services on campus.
- Expand the campus shuttle and include routes beyond the central and medical campus.
- Increase student employment on campus and tie to academic goals.
- Pursue Division I status for athletics and continue to advance the idea of an arena to be used for sporting and cultural events and commencement.
- Continue to improve and upgrade the quality of services across campus and provide greater staff levels and employee training opportunities.
- Transform the “Wayne Way” into a positive by eliminating antiquated policies and procedures.
