1. The Learning Experience: Establish and sustain a superlative learning experience that builds upon the unique values and attributes of WSU.

  • Reward excellence in teaching and make it a top priority.
  • Recruit and support outstanding faculty and academic staff.
  • Mentor faculty, teaching assistants and adjuncts to improve teaching methods.
  • Provide more instruction and support on learning for faculty.
  • Promote a better faculty understanding of students’ unique learning styles and each student’s strengths and weaknesses.
  • Establish clear standards for excellence in teaching.
  • Simplify general education requirements.
  • Form additional learning communities, particularly for first-year students.
  • Expand global learning and language departments, encouraging juniors to participate.
  • Integrate experiential and service learning into academic departments.
  • Provide more opportunities for co-op learning.

3. Quality of Campus Life: Enhance the quality of life on campus by nurturing a culture of success and excellence.

  • Recruit out-of-state students and promote residential living for these students.
  • Offer more entertainment venues and services on campus.
  • Expand the campus shuttle and include routes beyond the central and medical campus.
  • Increase student employment on campus and tie to academic goals.
  • Pursue Division I status for athletics and continue to advance the idea of an arena to be used for sporting and cultural events and commencement.
  • Continue to improve and upgrade the quality of services across campus and provide greater staff levels and employee training opportunities.
  • Transform the “Wayne Way” into a positive by eliminating antiquated policies and procedures.
